The Role
Fortis Construction Group Inc. is seeking a construction accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably with experience in the construction industry with bookkeeping and costing responsibilities. This role will support and report to Fortis’ CFO and work alongside both the project management, costing, and accounting teams.
Job Duties & Responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Accounting 30%-40%
- Full accounting cycle and bookkeeping for other entities/related companies
- Monthly closings and financial statement preparation for multiple entities
- Other finance and accounting projects as assigned
Job Costing 60%-70%
- Analyze projects for profitability, actual costs vs. budgeted costs
- Update the estimate to complete monthly for all projects in accordance with project managers
- Ensuring project costs are posted properly in accounting software (Jonas)
- Ensure monthly billings go out on time
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in accounting, including cost accounting
- Experience in construction accounting is a strong asset
- College diploma and/or university degree in Accounting or a related field (Finance, Business, or Construction Management)
- Familiarity with Jonas Premier or similar construction accounting software(s) is an asset
- Advanced proficiency working in Microsoft Excel
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; with the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers and contribute to a team-oriented environment
- Exceptional attention to detail combined with creative problem-solving abilities
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks efficiently, and consistently meet deadlines
- Capable of working independently to complete general accounting responsibilities with accuracy and reliability
