Located at the RIM Park Manulife Sportsplex at 2001 University Ave. East, the Eastside Branch is a vibrant, contemporary space that reflects the surrounding community. With soaring ceilings, inviting lounge areas, light-filled interiors, and an outdoor nature courtyard, the newest addition to the Waterloo Public Library system is a stunning gathering space for the community.
The 12,000-square-foot addition to the RIM Manulife Financial Sportsplex and Healthy Living Centre followed a LEED shadow design that provides increased sustainability building features. The green features include
increased recycled and local materials, reduced construction waste, high-efficiency building systems and a metal panel solar wall system, to name a few.
The multi-use library provides features with an open floor plan and a natural outdoor space that will be used for dynamic programming and education activities year-round for all ages. In addition, the facility includes a digital studio with high-end soundproof audio and video components.
The library was the recipient of the Ontario Library Association’s 2022 New Library Building Award.
