As an addition to the existing arena, this phase included a full aquatic centre for the Town of Lakeshore with 25m lap pool, lazy river, and therapy pool.
The building structure was designed utilizing all hollow structural steel (HSS) members to create a dramatic shape. The dual-axis, sloping roof structure includes three large skylights supported on angled HSS columns, which created a challenging and tedious build. The Natatorium features an extensive full-height curtainwall, a cedar wood slat ceiling and wall panels, aluminum cladding, and contemporary floor and wall tiling —which extends through the change rooms and lobby areas.
This project also included the construction of change room areas, an administration space, storage, and mechanical and electrical access. Exterior amenities include a splash pad, basketball courts, tennis courts, natural turf soccer fields, and a 5 km walking trail including pedestrian bridge.
