The Role

Fortis Construction Group Inc. is seeking an individual with a passion for numbers and a keen eye for detail to play a pivotal role in our organization’s costing department as a Project Accountant. As a member of the Fortis Construction Group team, the Project Accountant will support the Cost Accounting manager, along with the Project Managers and Coordinators with timely and accurate project costing and reporting. As a Project Accountant, you’ll delve into the intricacies of our construction operations, meticulously tracking and analyzing costs to ensure optimal efficiency and profitability. This role is crucial in supporting the construction process from a costing perspective. Job Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work with Project Managers to ensure that all costs are recorded monthly, and all projects are billed monthly, which includes preparing monthly AR invoices and backup as directed by Project Managers
  • Meet month-end and quarter-end deadlines and assist with reporting and analysis and estimates to complete
  • Assist with reviewing quarterly project profit and loss statements, highlight any issues and understand the variances of project budget against actual cost
  • Establish, maintain, and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
  • Analyze internal systems and/or processes, and deep dive into related firms outside of Fortis Construction
  • Prepare other statistical, financial, and accounting reports as needed
  • Credit card reconciliation(s)
  • Assist with other clerical and office duties as required (reception, answering phones, stocking supplies, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education in Accounting or Finance, or a degree/diploma in a related field (Business, construction, bookkeeping)
  • A great understanding of bookkeeping; a minimum of 2 years of bookkeeping experience is a must
  • Experience in construction, contracting, or construction job costing considered an excellent asset
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Excellent verbal, written and analytical communication skills
  • Experience using Jonas Premier software
  • Possesses the ability to problem solve
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft excel
